Sermon = Who We Trust Him
Text = Mark 4:35-41
Sunday = 5th Sunday after Pentecost (B)

    • begins his work also among gentiles
    • people who are different
    • different religiously culturally ethnically
    • ministry + mission of Jesus not only with people like us
    • also with people on the other side
    • difficult + challenging
    • to what other side does Jesus send us?
    • risks + challenge of going to… forming friendships with… inviting… sharing life with people very different from us
    • sometimes the chaos is when people of God wrestle with difficult issues
    • good intelligent believers disagree with each other
    • the problem is real
    • the storms we face are real
    • these are experienced fishermen
    • the storm is serious
    • waves beat against the boat
    • somehow Jesus is able to sleep
    • at peace because deep trust in God
  • the trusting one is at peace
  • disciples cry out like we do
  • not wake up + do something
  • with a sharp question
  • Do you not care?
  • Jesus wakes up + rebuked the storm
  • like sometimes he rebukes unclean spirits or disciples who try to correct him
  • four words in English

  • Be silent! Be restrained!
  • turns the storm into calm
  • story also spoke to early church beginning to face hostility + persecution
  • Christian church today entering another time
  • increasingly difficult to profess + practice our faith
